You are welcome here!

Are you a conservative Trump voter who is getting fed up with bad economic news and inflation? Tired of paying more for gas because of the Iran war? Scared because you had to drop your health insurance when the price skyrocketed because of the “Big Beautiful Bill”? Maybe you now believe the harsh crackdown on immigrants by ICE agents is going too far? Many Americans are starting to feel this shift in support for Trump. Are you among those experiencing “voters’ remorse”?
Well, my friend, there are many of us who saw all this coming and tried to sound the alarm. People like me who knew that if we gave Trump another four years in power it would lead to absolute chaos, not only here in America but in other places around the world. We tried to warn you… I tried to warn you. But you voted for Trump and other Republicans because of abortion and immigrants and trans kids playing sports. Oh, and because of high gas prices too.
So now those of us who have always known that Trump is a raging narcissist are seeing people like you who are finally realizing this, and we’re wondering what to do with you. Do we welcome you with open arms, as those who have finally seen the light? Or do we leave you to your misery, because you’re just getting what you voted for?
Speaking for myself, I’m glad you’ve begun to see the light. Welcome to the Resistance! I went through a similar change of mind several years ago (2003), and I’ve always said that if I can change, anyone can change. There are a lot of reasons for NOT changing… family, church, and workplace pressures can sometimes choke off independent thought, so kudos to you for withstanding the peer pressure. We will need your help and your vote at the midterms to put the brakes on Trump’s campaign of hate and division. I can recommend a website called www.LeavingMAGA.org. It’s by and for those who have left the movement, or have doubts and remorse about staying in MAGA but are afraid to leave.
But I have a couple of nagging questions.
First, why did it take something bad happening to YOU before you started re-thinking? This has always been my criticism of conservatives. As a liberal, and a Christian, my first thought regarding any policy question is “Does this hurt anyone?” If so, who does it hurt and why? In other words, I try my best to love my neighbor as myself. For conservatives (and remember I WAS a conservative for decades) the question is “Does this hurt ME?” It’s selfishness, plain and simple.
My second question is: When Trump is gone and the economic pressure you’re experiencing subsides, will you revert to just thinking about yourself again? The truth is, the selfishness in all humans is our weakness. It makes us susceptible to manipulation.
Manipulation by whom, you ask? There are about 1,000 billionaires in this country who are rapidly gaining wealth, power, and control over vast spheres of influence. They benefit when you think you stand to gain something that someone else isn’t getting, or that some “undeserving” group is getting something that you aren’t getting. Pitting groups against each other and watching us fight amongst ourselves is what makes them richer. They are using our innate selfishness to gain even more power and wealth.
We need to stop dancing to their tune!
It’s not too late to curb their ambitions to control everything in our lives, and it starts at the ballot box this November. There are two major policy objectives we need to pass, and they can only pass if we remove as many conservative Trump enablers as we can from positions of power. We need to stop gerrymandering, and we need to stop unlimited personal and corporate donations to political campaigns. If we do those two things, we can throttle their influence over legislation that benefits and enriches them and return our government to one that solves our problems instead of contributing to our problems.
Are you ready to join the effort to eliminate the threat of an oligarch-run country? It didn’t get to this point overnight, and it will be a long, hard slog to rescue ourselves. We can only accomplish these two vitally important goals if we are all committed to the fight over the long haul. We need to work together.
So here’s my final question: Is this a redemptive moment for you? Have you seen the error of your ways and are determined to work for the betterment of everyone from now on? Or are you just upset that the policies you voted for and still support came back to bite you in the butt?
