Hinson Opposes “Reckless Spending?”

One would think that Republican senatorial candidate Ashley Hinson might back away a bit from Donald Trump after seeing what his endorsement did (or didn’t do) for gubernatorial candidate Randy Feenstra on June second. And, in an odd way, maybe she has.
Not that I am an expert in decoding the intricacies of MAGA’s subliminal messaging, but every time I turn on the television (and, heaven help us, it is only June!), there is Ms. Hinson, railing away against “reckless spending.” I am definitely with her on that one; heck, I grimace when my wife splurges on Rainier cherries rather than buying the regular ones down at HyVee. So let’s break this “reckless spending” down a bit and see if we can discern a hidden message.
Donald Trump has sued his own Administration for $10 billion, but he will call the whole thing off if we taxpayers will fork over $1.776 billion of our own money to “compensate” the hurt feelings of those mobsters who did their damnedest, at his urging, to overthrow the government of the United States on January 6, 2021 and who, as a result of their violent and deliberate actions, were convicted of multiple felonies by multiple juries of their peers. That would be some pretty reckless spending.
The ever-feckless Trump has, of course—and without the Congressional approval mandated by the United States Constitution—declared war on a sovereign state which was not at the time either interested in or capable of threatening this country militarily. The direct cost of that war (I’m talking about munitions, equipment, damaged assets, subsidies to Israel, and the like—not even thinking about the price of gasoline at the pump down at Casey’s) is upwards of $200 billion and counting. So far. Now, that is some pretty reckless spending indeed!
Don’t get me started on the ballroom. Or on the UFC grandstand turning the White House lawn into a carnival midway. Or on the “nonpartisan” 250th birthday party. Or on gold plating the Oval Office. Spending just plain doesn’t get any more reckless than these.
Seventy billion dollars for ICE!
And so on. I have not seen numbers on how much it cost to put Trump’s name on the Kennedy Center and then take it off again.
So maybe there is something more subtle than we imagine in Ms. Hinson’s messaging. Maybe she is telling us that, if we elect her to the Senate, she will oppose the megalomaniacal grifting, the illegalities, the warmongering and petty thievery she so ardently encourages from the House of Representatives.
Maybe, but probably not.
