What is a Precinct Committee Member (PCM)?
(Sometimes called Precinct Chairperson and Precinct Committee Person.
We are going to make it simpler by calling them PCMS)
The most important responsibility is representing your precinct as a voting member of the Central Committee of the Black Hawk County Democrats. This entails keeping track of what is going on by reading the E-mailed Weekly Newsletter, responding to the Chair's messages, and attending Central Committee meetings and special conventions for important votes like electing officers and Democratic candidates for special elections.
The next obligation is to do as many of the following things as your health, work and family responsibilities permit. If you come to meetings, read the newsletter and browse our website, you will find activities and volunteer opportunities that match your strengths and interests.
When you go to protests
and rallies, be willing to talk about
being a Democrat.
Never support a candidate who is running against a Democratic nominee.
Help with voter registration and encouraging others to vote by absentee ballot.
Help the county
"get out the vote (GOTV)"
in your precinct
Maintain regular contact with Democrats in your precinct as much as possible.
Learn the geography and demographics
of your
precinct.
When you make phone calls or knock on doors for candidates, ask to do it in your precinct.
Help the county party conduct Precinct Caucuses and County Conventions.
Get involved with like-minded organizations like Blue Dot and Indivisible.
Volunteer for the county party: help out at booths and events or in the office, or join a team.
Help out with fundraising by going
to events, donating, or inviting others to attend.
Look for ways to get involved and bring along family and friends.
