Republicans Are Undermining Public Health

Vaccines are one of the greatest advances in public health in all human history.  Who knows how many lives have been saved by polio, tetanus, whooping cough, tuberculosis, smallpox, measles, and more recently, covid vaccines?  Yet because of a few gullible people and charlatans who peddle unverified and unscientific theories, we are abandoning our next generation to the ravages of once-eradicated diseases. 

We are supposed to be sending our best and brightest to Des Moines to make wise decisions on our behalf.  But what do we have instead?  A bunch of craven cowards bending to the will of totally unqualified people in positions of power like RFK Jr.  Fortunately, HF 2171 did not pass, but if it had, Iowa would have become the first state to end the requirement for children to be vaccinated to attend school.  Iowa Republicans tried to put our children and grandchildren at risk and undermine public health!  And if they are still in the leadership next year, they’ll try to pass it again.

But they did have time to attack libraries, restrict mifepristone, erase LGBTQ+ students, ignore systemic racism, create a massive budget deficit, and undermine public education further.  Why do we put up with this abdication of common sense?  It’s past time to boot this crew out and elect a new generation of lawmakers who possess courage, integrity, and wisdom.
